Tri State Arsenal Showcase 1- Rizzo jumped out to an early four run lead in the second innings and never looked back, holding off Evoshield Canes South's late rally for a 6-5 win and a place in the semi-finals.
Timothy Seagraves (2016, Washington TWP, NJ) launched a solo homer for Tri State, his only hit of the day. Conner Kolic (2017, Bergen Catholic, NJ) drove in two with a triple and Austin Bates (2017, John F Kennedy Catholic HS, NY) also plated a pair with a double and reached on an error. Tyler Juhl (2017, Caravel Academy, DE) scored twice after reaching on a single and working a walk, also stealing a base.
Hiro Mizutani (2016, Undecided, Paramus, NJ) got the ball to start for Tri State, throwing 5.2 innings with five punch outs and five runs allowed while battling a bout of wildness. He threw a heavy 80-84 mph that he could elevate and a good 62-68 mph curve from a high 3/4 arm angle and deceptive delivery. Mizutani showed effortless arm action with good extension out front, a good follow through, and outstanding arm speed. He used his lower half well in his delivery, hiding the ball well with good hip rotation and a smooth, balanced, online delivery. Tim Miller (2016, Conestoga HS, PA) shut the door after Mizutani, allowing just one hit in the last 1.1 innings, striking out one. He threw a heater that hit 84 mph on the gun as well with a 65 mph curve and 73 mph slider.
Brandon Dorsey (2017, Calvert Hall College, MD) also left the yard, hitting a solo shot for Evoshield Canes South for his only hit. Will Sprinkle (2017, Reagan HS, NC) added a double, single, reached on an error and was stranded every time on the bases. South Carolina commit Noah Campbell (2017, Cardinal Gibbons HS, NC) worked two walks and stole a base, and Sean McQuillan (2017, Green Hope HS, NC) worked two walks as well and came around to score once.
Colin Peluse (2016, Middletown HS, DE) threw four solid innings of relief, allowing two runs (one earned) on a solo homer and a walk with three strike outs. The Wake Forest commit's fastball sat 81-86 mph with a 64-68 mph curve and 65-74 mph slider for breaking balls. Matthew Holt (2016, Nansemond River HS, VA) got the start and didn't get the best results, allowing four runs and getting tagged with the loss in just two innings. He was impressive in those two frames though, hitting 86 mph on the gun with his explosive fastball. Holt also threw a 73-76 mph slider as his go to breaker, getting good depth on it with late break, tight rotation, and good command of the pitch. He also threw a 65-69 mph 12/6 curve, also with late break and good depth. He comes from a high 3/4 arm angle with a smooth, balanced delivery showing good use of his lower half and good hip rotation.
