Lawson Copeland (2027 RHP, Charlotte, NC) tossed two quality innings and struck out a pair of batters. He moved his fastball around the strike zone effectively, topping it out at 88 mph. Zeke Pruitt (2026 SS, Belmont, NC) jumped on a first-pitch fastball to lead off the third inning and shot it right back up the middle for a single. The 6-foot right-handed hitter displayed an aggressive approach at the plate while creating consistently loud impact to the middle of the field.

Micah Vanfossen (2026 1B, Charlotte, NC) put together an efficient outing on the mound, striking out four batters while allowing just one hit. His fastball was located effectively on both sides of the plate and ultimately peaked at 81 mph. Purple Vs. Black

5/26/2024

Nick Russo (2025 RHP, Matthews, NC) has a strong frame on the mound at 6-foot-4, 215-pounds. He is getting ahead early with his heavy fastball he throws up to 88-mph. He pounds the outside corner of the strike zone efficiently repeatedly. His curveball registers in at 71-mph and has tight spin with an 11-7 break to it. He also mixes in a hardly thrown slider at 77-mph that has strong horizontal break to it. He mixes in both breaking pitches that give the same look out of the hand and coming into the zone which keeps the hitters guessing on what pitch they are actually seeing. He went 2 innings punching out 4, while only allowing 1 hit.

Kyle Kirkland (2026 RHP, Lake Wylie, SC) got a fastball over the heart of the plate and put a good piece of wood on the ball for a base hit up the middle. He was on time with the fastball staying inside of the baseball effectively and creating extension towards the center part of the field. Good piece of hitting here by Kirkland. He followed up in the fourth inning by smoking a RBI double over the centerfielders head. Loud contact was produced with solid exit velocity off the bat. He showed the ability to create some appropriate backspin on the ball giving the ball solid ball flight as it kept carrying.

Sam Schwamb (2025 C, Fort Mill, SC) got himself a RBI single laced into right-centerfield for a base hit in his first plate appearance of the game. Solid piece of hitting staying inside of the ball on a pitch middle-in and being able to stay compact enough to inside-out the ball like he did while still putting solid exit velocity on the baseball. Clean approach at the plate looking to do a job. In the fourth inning Sam came back up to the plate barreling a ball deep into right field with backspin carry one hopping into the wall. Great signs of juice to the opposite field with a natural feel to that part of the field.

Jason Sproull (2026 OF, Wilmington, NC) stayed grounded in his swing staying on his back half waiting to explode on a fastball on the outer half of the plate for a base hit into right field. Pure swing of the bat with a great display of torso involvement within his swing.

Zack Scruggs (2025 SS, Asheboro, NC) got a first pitch curveball that was left hanging in the upper portion of the zone and he absolutely demolished the baseball deep into left field for a double. He showed great pitch recognition and the ability to adjust to a curveball while sitting on the upper-80's fastball. Great piece of hitting here by Scruggs producing loud contact off the bat.

Ryan Allen (2025 SS, Greensboro, NC) is seeing the baseball well at the plate in this game smoking two singles in his first two plate appearances. He has a simple approach with plus contact upside. Both of his hits were knocked to opposite field with some juice behind them.

Davis Cook (2025 OF, Greensboro, NC) throws a firm fastball up to 87-mph. He works downhill effectively creating good extension. He is blowing it by hitters and getting on their hands quickly producing swinging misses and weak contact. He also mixes in an amazing slider at 77-mph which he can land for a strike consistently. The slider breaks hard and has horizontal break with a touch of vertical action to it. It comes in looking like the heater and sweeps away quickly fooling hitters. Davis went two innings only allowing two hits while punching out two.

Ryker Hann (2025 OF, Kingsport, TN) produced loud contact off the bat smoking a single into right field to get it going in the fourth inning for his team. He showed off some quick bat speed whipping the barrel through the zone efficiently. He stayed on plane and hit the ball on a rope.

His slider has solid horizontal break to it as well as some moderate vertical break. He does well working on the inner half of the plate and beating hitters producing weak contact or getting them to chase out of the zone. He also will mix in a 73-mph change-up that has late fade to it. This pitch has some good speed differential from his fastball and is keeping hitters on their front half. Bryce Smith (2025 LHP, Timberlake, NC) creates loads of movement with his fastball at 81-mph. He looks untouchable up there when he got dialed in. His curveball has a sharp 11-7 break to it that registers at 73-mph with solid depth. Very projectible pitcher on the mound. Unbelievable RPM numbers he is putting up on the mound. He went 2 innings, striking out 4, giving up no hits, and no runs.

Matthew Hopkinson (2026 RHP, Mobile, AL) looks comfortable on the mound showing strong command up on the mound. He sat between 81-mph to 88-mph with his fastball. He created a lot of swinging misses with his fastball but had just as much success with change-up producing weak contact or faulty swings. He also had a curveball that had 11-7 break to it that had sharp bite to it that would buckle hitters at 70-mph. Great tempo on the mound showing dominance up there.
